Trumpet, Washboard, Vocals Member Since: 1992
The first band he played with outside of school-sanctioned bands was the Munch Puppies, a group of friends from school. “I don't know if I knew the term Jam Band then, but I guess that's what it was. It was a great lesson in listening and reacting. "
In sixth grade, he began playing the trumpet. Upon entering High School, he auditioned, and was accepted into the "Arts Magnet" High School at Booker T. Washington in Dallas.
Danny attended the University of North Texas and also studied briefly with Don Jacoby. "I was fortunate to take a few lessons from Jake before he stopped teaching," he says, "He completely changed the way I approach playing the trumpet."
While on the road, Danny prefers to listen to AM talk radio. One of his favorite shows is Coast-to-Coast AM. However, he admits that he'll even listen to the farm report if the signal is good.
While traveling he looks forward to finding a particular cheese flavored, puffed corn snack. He says that they are all over the Midwest, but they just can’t be found in Texas.
When home in Texas Danny likes to dabble with computers and enjoys woodworking. He also considers music to be an ongoing hobby, which is probably why it remains fresh and interesting to him.
If Danny could pick one perfect place for Brave Combo to perform in he says it would be someplace where he could find a tribe of people that have had little or no contact with modern society, and corndog* into their village. "It would be great to see their reaction, assuming they didn't try to kill us or eat us. I bet they would dig it."
*corndog - to march with acoustic instruments
